Akiko Ostlund

Akiko Ostlund is a radical and boundary-pushing performance artist based in the Twin Cities. Originally from Osaka, Japan, she developed an interest in tribal fusion belly dance after moving to Minnesota, and subsequently began to study and practice the classical  Indian dance style of Bharatanatyam with the Ragamala school in Minneapolis. In recent years she has developed her own cleverly original dance/performance pieces, as well as insightful and revealing spoken word poetry. She is also a company member of Feminist theatre company Raw Sugar, and has co-directed and co-curated The Funny 2017, which is the fourth annual feminist comedy festival of original works created by self-identified feminist artists.
