What knowledges do you bring to our community?

Thank you for your interest in applying to be an Artist-Facilitator for the Spring 2018 season! This is our second year of Artist Education programming in collaboration with Pangea World Theater and Soo Visual Arts Center. Based on the the values of the Theater of the Oppressed — "No pedagogy which is truly liberating can remain distant from the oppressed by treating them as unfortunates and by presenting for their emulation models [of education] from among the oppressors," — our Artist Education Workshop Series creates unique opportunities for artists to connect and grow in tandem.
Take me to the application: https://tinyurl.com/artistfacilitators2018
The series invites artists on the edge of culture to teach their peers about the personal and professional skills they’ve developed to thrive on the margins. Workshop focuses have varied from building networking skills, to implementing self-care practices, to the practicalities of doing your taxes as an artist.
Applying artists can be of any discipline or level of experience. To help you with this application, here's a few qualities that we're looking for: (1) Artists who can lead a 1.5-hour long workshop, sharing skills that have helped them survive as artists on the margins; (2) Workshops related less to actually making art than to building skills, and professional and wellness development; (3) Because we support artists on the margins, workshops should center experiences "at the edge of culture." While we do have these guidelines, all are encouraged to apply and we will review every application in full. (Check out our website's event archive to find previous workshops: http://www.patrickscabaret.org/event-archive). Also note that your idea doesn't have to be fully fleshed out yet, but please give us as much information as you can.
Expectations: Once four Artist-Facilitators are selected, they will individually meet with Cabaret staff for ~30 minutes, adequately plan their workshops, facilitate the workshop, receive $200 upon completion, and submit a brief reflection so we can continue to improve on this programming.
Timeline: Dates are subject to change, and locations will be between Pangea World Theater's Studio space and Soo Visual Arts Center: (1) Saturday, March 24th at 2:00PM, (2) Tuesday, April 24th at 6:00PM, (3) Tuesday, May 8th at 6:00PM, and (4) Saturday, May 26th at 2:00PM.
