Summary: Patrick’s Cabaret is partnering with Minnesota Playlist to offer free and greatly discounted talent profiles, amplifying the visibility of artists who have made Patrick’s Cabaret a home.
For three decades, Patrick’s Cabaret has been more than a collection of events and programs, it has been a platform for making our network of artists on the edge of culture, especially artists of color, artists with disabilities, and artists with queer and trans identities, more visible to a wider audience. Today we’re announcing a way to keep that network activated, even after Patrick’s Cabaret sunsets.
BACKGROUND: THE PATRICK'S CABARET WEBSITE
In 2016 we released a new organizational website that highlighted our network by making a profile page on our website for nearly every artist who has appeared in an event with us. Every profile includes a photo and bio, links to the events in which they’ve appeared recently, and sometimes includes further information such as an artist’s website. Use the search bar at the top of the site to see if you already have a profile. It was a small way we could honor our community; some emerging artists saw themselves as “real” artists for the first time when they were featured on our website, while experienced artists had an easy way for audiences to learn more about their work and follow the artists to other performances. In the long-term, we planned to build out the profile and networking features of our website to further serve our community of artists, but that work was halted when the organization was forced to sunset.
A PARTNERSHIP WITH MINNESOTA PLAYLIST
As part of our goal to thoughtfully sunset the organization while preserving its legacy, today we are proud to partner with Minnesota Playlist, the virtual town square for Minnesota’s performing arts, to offer the Patrick’s Cabaret family of artists free and greatly discounted artist profiles. Playlist is also seeking new writers for its magazine, which publishes interviews, event reviews, and other content highlighting the work of local performance-makers. Patrick’s Cabaret artists joining as writers provides another opportunity to have our work promoted, seen, and written about by our own communities, while promoting it to a broader audience.
As Patrick’s Cabaret ends its lifespan, we appreciate Minnesota Playlist’s commitment to promote the visibility of the Patrick’s Cabaret family of artists. We know you’re still doing the work, we’re sure you’ll stay connected to each other, but we hope this is one way to make that even easier.Best, Scott Artley
