Seeking Patrick’s Cabaret artists for our “FUNeral”

Proposals due: Wednesday, April 25th at 11:59pm
Performances: Saturday, June 3, 2018
at LUSH, 990 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413

This is a FUNeral--like a funeral, BUT FUNNER. This special event will include eulogistic performances by artists spanning Patrick’s Cabaret’s history, FUN interpretations of traditional funeral rituals, and a dance party. Attendees are invited to wear their “funeral finest” for an evening of reflection, love, and celebration, while coming together to enjoy the sunset.

We are interested in presenting an array of eulogistic performance experiences, in keeping with the theme of this event as both a parody of a funeral, and a very real ritual to support our community’s emotional release. We encourage artists to embrace the challenge of saying goodbye to Patrick’s Cabaret through performance. How would you bid farewell to an organization that has helped cultivate a vast community of artists? We want you to explore the process of letting go, laying to rest, and celebrating how Patrick’s Cabaret has shaped you. We encourage expressions of sorrow and humor equally. Our goal is to stage, in a spectacular Patrick’s Cabaret fashion, a cabaret-style performance that brings catharsis to everyone in the room. Approximately 6 performances, each 5-7 minutes total, will be selected.

  • While you don’t have to create new work specifically for the theme (although you are welcome to), you do need to demonstrate how your work will commemorate the Cabaret. The strongest proposals engage with the topic in a creative way--we're open to speeches, but love how poetry, movement, and music could do the same work as a traditional eulogy.

  • Technical capabilities are very limited, performances that will thrive best will have minimal expectations for lighting and sound cues.

  • Smoking, candles, incense, fire, and anything that would pose a threat (figurative or literal) to anyone is not allowed. Not sure if that applies? Propose it and we’ll figure it out.

For this special benefit event/communal ritual, performers are asked to volunteer their time. We are grateful that artists in the past have offered to perform for benefit events like this that support the Cabaret.
